A Post About Fitness

I know I have been missing and haven't been blogging near as much the last few months. It's been hard for me to find balance between all of my different hobbies, being a mama, wife, friend, and just not feeling motivated or knowing what to do with this space.

Something I don't write about much on here or discuss near enough is fitness and my personal fitness goals for the future. Fitness means more to me than looking good in a bathing suit or working for a really low body fat percentage. Fitness to me means living a healthy lifestyle so I can live a hopefully long and healthy life and so I can take care and nourish this body that I was given. We are only given one body and I find it so important to take care of it.

I really want to start incorporating more fitness related posts but don't know how to go about doing it. I was kind of hoping to reach out to those of you who read and see what you are interested in reading about.

I know I'm a sucker for before and after photos whether it's a weight loss transformation, muscle gains, or seeing someone gain weight after having an eating disorder those types of posts seem to spark my interest. I don't have a crazy before and after photo to share with this or anything but I have been working on eating more wholesome foods and working out more consistently since returning home from my vacation to California. Tomorrow will mark Day 30 and I did take photos at the start of this new chapter in my life so I may or may not have a picture to include here tomorrow. I honestly don't know how much change can be seen in a mere 30 days without a strict diet and exercise plan ;P

I feel that if I start incorporating a fitness related post once a week it will help keep me motivated to keep my blog going and give me something to write about. Fitness is something I do everyday and letting those of you who read know what I'm up to or what I have been doing will only keep me more motivated to be the best me I can be. I find that when you make a goal known it's much easier to achieve it.

Here are some of my fitness goals for the next 30 days:

Workout 4x a Week
Since I started working out more regularly in Fall 2013 I have found it very easy to include working out into my daily routine. I feel more myself and much more happy when I get a good sweat in my day. However, I think it was this dreadful dry hot Utah weather that kept me from having any desire to workout. I had a couple weeks this summer where I only worked out twice a week and didn't eat the best food choices.

To go into further detail I want to do muscle training AND cardio. I don't need to do both in one day but need to get 4 sessions of each every week. I think that will be a good place to start.

Drink 1 Gallon of Water Daily
I have been struggling so badly at staying hydrated this summer! I truly think that has caused me to feel very fatigued and tired. Drinking water is so important and is something I need to do better. Maybe adding fresh fruit to my water will give me more of an incentive to drink more. Do you guys have any ideas?

Stay Off The Scale
My new gym has a scale and I have been weighing in weekly. I find that when my weight doesn't go down much or I don't lose any that I give myself such a hard time. I really need to stop obsessing over a number and stay off of it for 30 days.

Sleeping Habits
I have the WORST sleeping habits on the face of the Earth. Some days I spend hours watching Mad Men on Netflix or working on editing photos late into the night. I really need to work on fixing my sleeping schedule and getting a solid 8 hours of sleep each night. Whether this means sleeping 6 in the night and taking a 2 hour nap with Zaden in the day or whatever I need to do I feel this will really help me feel more energized at the start of each day.

What are some of your fitness goals short or long term? I would LOVE to hear them. Also like I mentioned earlier in the post I would like to know what you guys are interested in reading about. I'm up for anything whether it's meal planning, prepping, recipes, workout ideas, before/after pics, etc.

  1. This is such a great post. I love that you have such a healthy outlook on life. I just started giving up sugar and working out more frequently but I do only want to do workouts that make me happy because I don't see the point of suffering on the road to a healthier life.

    1. Wow did you complete get rid of artificial sugar from your diet? That takes dedication! I completely agree that you need to find workouts that are fun and enjoyable. For me, I HATE running so for cardio I like to do something fun like swimming laps, zumba, or going on a walk with my son.

    1. Thanks so much Brielle, you are seriously too sweet. Well to be completely honest I failed at drinking a gallon of water today. It was so hard to remember to drink a little each hour and before I knew it the day was over ); Love your goals and you look amazing.. keep up the great work!

  4. Your goals are awesome! I would love to hear what types of cardio or weights you enjoy doing most :).

My goal is really just to start consistent exercise because I want to lose some weight before we have kids. I lost 13 pounds last year which was a great accomplishment, but I have 20 more to go to be where I was when we were married. I struggle with thyroid issues so weight loss isn't easy, but I definitely like the reward from it :)

    1. Thanks so much for your input and sharing your fitness goals with me. I've heard that losing weight can be difficult when you have problems with your thyroid. 13 pounds is AN AMAZING accomplishment. I know if you just slowly work at it you will easily get there. So excited to hear that you guys are thinking of starting a family<3

  5. I have totally SUCKED at drinking enough water and I feel so bad about it because I'm nursing, so I feel like it should be an easy thing, ya know? Anyway, I'm super excited to keep up with your fitness journey. I really want to get back into working out, but every time I try, my milk supply dips. so it is what it is. :/

    1. Drinking water is so hard for some reason you would think it would be easy to get at least 8 glasses in a day lol. Don't be so hard on yourself you have so much going on and you look GREAT! Little small changes in your diet or a quick home workout will show results in the long run.
