May 2014 | Dearest Lou

Black, Tan, and Polka Dots

Mama wore:
Shirt: c/o 6KS
Necklace: c/o Mindy Mae's Market
Jeans: Old Navy
Shoes: c/o Lulu*s (old, loving these similar sandals)
Lipstick: MAC Cyber (Nordstrom, always free shipping & returns!)

Z wore:
Shirt: Old Navy (sold out online, loving THIS)
Jeans: OshKosh
Sandals: Salt Water Sandals

I have been wearing a lot of this color combination lately. Probably because 3 of my favorite shoes are this shade of tan and I have two polka dotted shirts this color. 6KS recently sent me this lovely shirt and I love the length and lace trim. I have to admit it will be too hot to wear this again until Fall but know its going to be a favorite.

Zaden has also been wearing these salt water sandals EVERY DAY. It's been so dang hot the last few days and he gets so hot very easily. I couldn't imagine making the little guy wear socks and non-open toed shoes.

Also..
YAY IT'S FRIDAY!

Hope you guys have a good one. We are headed to our friends home for a much needed play date (;

Date Night: Shaved Ice

Since our move to Provo we have been doing a lot more walking as a family. For our date night a few weekends back we walked over to this delicious local restaurant to eat with a few of our friends. As you can probably tell in the photos above Zaden wanted to walk on his very own and was very happy for the first two blocks but we realized we wouldn't get there for hours if we walked at Zaden's pace so we had to put him in the stroller. He was also being a little grumpy since he was in need of a nap. He fell asleep within 5 minutes.

After dinner, our friend Claire suggested we go get snow cones. I thought this was a great idea since I worked up quite the sweat speed walking to the restaurant. Hokulia Shave Ice on Canyon Road has the best snow cones.. so many different flavors and extra toppings. We ended up getting a mix of flavors and coconut ice cream underneath.. super delicious. Believe it or not the shaved ice pictured above is a small and was more than enough for the 3 of us. We will definitely be returning again soon.

Splurge vs Save

Top: Rue 21
Pants: Rue 21
Necklace: Style Lately
Shoes: DSW (old purchase)
Lipstick: MAC Heroine

Typically when it comes to splurging versus saving I almost always gravitate towards saving money; especially when it comes to statement pieces. I will splurge every now and again on basic items, shoes, or items that I will generally wear more than once a week.
I recently fell in love with this Daisy Top from Nasty Gal, I loved the print and could see myself wearing it often since it's stylish, light, and comfortable. However, $42 + $5 shipping sounded a bit steep for a shirt I wouldn't wear on a bi-weekly basis. So I bookmarked the shirt and decided I would shop around and see if I could find something similar.

If you know me on a personal level, you know that I love thrift stores and stores that have a great clearance section. Some of my favorites are Forever 21, Target, Old Navy, and Rue 21. My sister and I had an extra hour to kill a few days back before she needed to head back on the FrontRunner to South Jordan and we decided to do some quick shopping at Rue 21.

We headed to the clearance section  and lo and behold I found this similar daisy print top for only $3! That's less than what the shipping would have cost for the Nasty Gal top! I know that the fit isn't quite the same and the daisys are larger but I personally love it. Paying less than thrift store price for a cute NEW shirt is always exciting in my book (;

What are your rules when it comes to splurging vs saving?

Mothers Day 2014

"...and she loved a little boy very, very much-- even more than she loved herself." -Shel Silverstein, The Giving Tree

Even though everyday isn't a walk in the park, I absolutely love being this little boys mama.

Zion National Park Pt 2

Here's part 2 (part 1 here if you missed it) of our vacation to Zion National Park. Unfortunately we had to leave early this day since Daryl had to return to work the following morning but we hiked 1/2 of the way to Emerald Pools. After seeing Kandice's photos I wish we would have had enough time to hike the whole way up!
